Here are the standards for NLP Certification:

If you decide to become highly skilled in NLP you have the option of moving through three levels of NLP Certification Training:

1. Certified Practitioner of NLP – the traditional format is the full-syllabus and full-length programme of 120 hours of training in which a Certified Trainer of NLP is continuously in attendance for at least 60 hours. The rest of the hours can be home study.

At the end of the course there is an assessment process to determine that you have reached the appropriate level of skill for certification as a Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

2. Certified Master Practitioners have already been certified as Practitioners of NLP and have then taken part in an additional 120 hours' training in the application of more advanced NLP.

Again, they will receive full certification when the trainer agree that they are able to behaviourally demonstrate that they have attained the requisite standard.

3. Certified Trainer in NLP - this person will first have been certified as a Practitioner and as a Master Practitioner and will then have attended an additional 160 hours training in how to train others in NLP at the first two levels.

Some training organisations additionally require the would-be trainer to spend some time as a Provisional Trainer, before receiving full certification, during which time they will be expected to attend and assist on further Practitioner and Master Practitioner certification programmes.

ANLP

Membership of ANLP was formerly only open to (1) individuals who held certificates from organisations that provide full-syllabus, full-length trainings and (2) organisations which provided full-syllabus, full-length trainings.

In 2001 ANLP dropped the original requirement that potential members must have completed a training of 120 attendance hours by a Certified NLP Trainer. Membership was opened to people who had attended the shorter 'accelerated' NLP trainings provided that would-be members announced that they had spent the extra time listening at home to audio tapes to make up the 120 hours.

In March 2003 they opened membership to anyone who had attended any form of NLP training as long as they held a certificate. This certificate need only be signed by two people that the same training organisation recognised as Trainers of NLP. ANLP was later dissolved as a democratic and not-for-profit organisation owned by its members - was subsequently resurrected as a private commercial company. ANLP has been changing in recent times and re-establishing itself as a certification body.

To apply to be an ANLP Accredited and Recognised Trainer, applicants must submit their training manual, core syllabus and promotional materials. Applicants will be required to produce at least five testimonials from students trained at least 6 months previously. Depending on the completeness of this information, the Board may request a site visit to gather further information.

When an application is successful, the Trainer becomes an ANLP Fully Accredited or Recognised Trainer (highlighted in yellow on the search facilities)

A trainer may, for any number of reasons, be awarded Provisional Accreditation as a transient step. This will usually be because the Trainer has wanted to gain Accreditation in principle, based on their application, and before the observation part of the process has taken place.

"I would like to congratulate ANLP on their recent development in comprehensive guidelines and standards for NLP Trainings and Trainers. This is much needed within the field and will aid the credibility of NLP as a powerful technology of communication excellence. It is a pleasure to endorse the standards and I look forward to supporting ANLP as they continue to facilitate members to embed the standards and ethics of quality training."
Lisa Wake, INLPTA & Certified Trainer of NLP

Here is what ANLP have as a guide of ethics about themselves:

1. ANLP does not and will never affiliate with any specific NLP professional, training body or organisation. ANLP prides itself on its inclusive and neutral accreditation policy as laid out below.

2. ANLP places no hierarchical value on who its members trained with or for how long they have trained. We believe that it is quality and skill of practice that count every time when it comes to accreditation by us.

3. ANLP places value only on best practice, which is determined by the quality of skills of the person who is seeking accredited membership of ANLP, and is proven by hours worked and testimonials gained and given in proof to ANLP.

4. ANLP works with a body of legislators from all NLP backgrounds to resolve any disputes that may arise, and to decide the issue of Trainers Accreditation for ANLP. All other levels of accreditation are determined by the level of qualification an interested party already holds with their chosen training body. No membership decisions are made directly by the employees of ANLP, and all membership level requirements are freely available for anyone to see on the website. If you would like more information on this please contact us.

5. It is entirely possible for anyone holding an NLP qualification to become a member of ANLP.

6. The level of training a person has undergone will be reflected in the nature of their membership. The reason for this is that ANLP is the number one port of call for the majority of members of the general public seeking to find training in NLP, and we are not in the business of misrepresentation. This policy is totally non-negotiable. Any disputes will be dealt with by our adjudicating body.

7. Anyone who meets the required levels of training can become an ANLP Accredited Trainer. In some cases ANLP will also consider accrediting particular trainings rather than individuals, if said training meets the guidelines laid out for best practice, in terms of hours taught and testimonials given. Again, accreditation of training is won through approval by our Accreditation Board and not through personal opinion.

8. ANLP has no political axe to grind and endorses no divisive policies, factions, or any in fighting that has marred ANLP as an organisation in its past. It will not involve itself in any such activities and will take steps to bar any such activity in its name, or through any of its mouth pieces.

9. ANLP is dedicated to working towards a unified, harmonious future for the NLP community, working in its best interests and promoting its benefits to an interested general public.

AIP (NLP,  Time empowerment and Hypnosis )

What Is an AIP Approved Institute Certification?
An AIP Approved Institute (AI) is an AIP approved, certified Trainer who is awarded certification recognition for having a training curriculum and testing that meets or exceeds AIP standards. These AI's are required to have their curriculum and testing periodically reviewed to make sure that their information remains as current as possible and that they still meet or exceed AIP standards.

Benefits of Becoming an AIP Approved Institute

- Your graduates can easily become Board certified by AIP because your training(s) is/are pre-approved and you have already verified their identity. Your graduates only need to send in to AIP a copy of their completion certificate from you, a completed AIP application form, and payment.
- You only pay one (1) affiliation fee annually since AIP is one (1) organization that offers certifications in several modalities .
- AIP operates as if it is a not-for-profit organization. Therefore, we do not market or endorse trainings to your graduates. Your graduate data base remains your own.
- We do not provide affiliation referral fees to training companies so that AIP's certification process can remain as objective as possible.

Here is what ABNLP says about itself:

The American Board of NLP was founded in 1995 by Dr. A. M. Krasner as an adjunct to the American Board of Hypnotherapy and has functioned as its sister organization since then. We have a convention every February on President's Day weekend in Newport Beach with the ABH. Today we have over 500 institutes worldwide approved at the Trainer Level of NLP, and thousands of members. We believe in NLP and we believe in Hypnosis as being most excellent ways of creating our own personal growth and development.

Standards in NLP certification:

Through-out the world, the standards for each of the membership levels below are pretty much the same. For example, an NLP training in Australia, the UK or Germany is very much like an NLP Practitioner Training in the United States . Each of the Certified Trainers will cover the same content as is outlined on the pages below. What differs is style of presentation, length of time, use of computer graphics and the use of multi-media learning options. Through-out the world compliance with these standards is voluntary, and so you will also find people teaching NLP who do not adhere to these standards. We highly recommend our Approved Institutes and when you see the seal of the ABNLP, below, you can be sure that this high level of excellence has been subscribed to by the Training Institute.

The Professional Guild of NLP

As a result of the change in the role of ANLP it was considered that it had become less relevant to those training providers who wanted an independent central body overseeing standards and giving potential NLP students guidance of how to select a reliable and professional training body.

As a result the Professional Guild of NLP was formed at a meeting in May 2003 near Birmingham. Pegasus NLP along with 8 other of the UK's most respected and long established NLP training providers, founded the Guild to provide such a resource for the NLP community.

Members of the Professional Guild of NLP agree to adhere to common principles, share a common training approach and code of ethics, and recognise one another's trainings. The Guild now has around 20 Member organisations in England, Wales, Scotland and Australia.

Standards & NLP Certification

The quality of NLP training available in the UK and worldwide varies considerably - from being exemplary to being quite mediocre - and regrettably standards do continue to drop. For example, you can obtain a piece of paper proclaiming that you are a Certified NLP Practitioner or NLP Master Practitioner by merely attending a course of just a few days and with minimal or no skills' assessment at the end.

In fact it is possible to go through all three levels of training and become a Certified NLP Trainer in a month or two!

But the actual piece of paper and the title of NLP Practitioner or NLP Master Practitioner carry little weight outside the world of NLP. And until the advent of the Professional Guild of NLP there were no nationally recognised NLP training standards within the UK.

So why attend an NLP Certification Training?

Having a certificate announcing that you are a Practitioner or Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming has personal and professional benefits - providing that you can back up the title by demonstrating a significant level of NLP skill.

And those who have completed 120 hours of NLP training will have a quite different level of skill and proficiency in comparison to those who have spent a few days as part of an NLP audience.

It is likely that you will only attend one Practitioner Certification Training in your life. It should be a great, eye-opening experience and one that you will always be glad you took part in. It should leave you convinced of your own value and your potential. You should be more impressed with yourself at the end of the training than with the organisation or the trainer.

So you can see that NLP certification is a good idea for yourself if you want to go forward as an NLP professional.
