NLP Training: The Law of Attraction

How does “The Law of Attraction” connect to NLP and NLP Training?

There are conflicting opinions around how closely they relate to each other. Considering the fact that they both are dealing with thoughts, beliefs and the workings of the mind and energy systems, you can conclude that there is an interesting and valuable connection between thought, mind and matter that is worth exploring.

Being a very “hot” and embraced concept, the Law of Attraction has, since it’s release through the movie “The Secret” been receiving a lot of criticism from people who clearly haven’t got an ounce of belief in it. From having been inspired with a new and optimistic outlook on life, people have started doubting in the power of intention because they cannot seem to make it work for themselves.

So how is it that so many people cannot get the Law of Attraction to work to their advantage? All people experienced with NLP and having gone through NLP Training would ask this simple question:

What is the difference between the people who make the Law of Attraction work for them and the ones who don’t?

You see, NLP is based on the presupposition that whatever another person can accomplish, so can you. It’s all about finding out how they are doing what they are doing in order to succeed and how that differs from the strategies used by people who are not succeeding.

According to “The Secret”, the Law of Attraction is a 3-step process:

  1.  Ask
  2.  Believe
  3.  Receive
perceptions

To think is to ask. Every thought is an intention. However, it is not necessarily the asking-part people have a problem with. Rather, problems arise when the thoughts, the intentions are filtered through our belief systems. The limiting beliefs we have about who we are, who we can be and what we can do and have in our lives might be stopping us from using the Law of Attraction to our advantage. You can ask as much as you want by thought, but you will not receive your desired results unless your thoughts and beliefs about their realizations are aligned.

By not addressing your underlying belief patterns, you are merely doing what I call “positive thinking”. It’s like re-polishing your car without cleaning it first, or making dough in a dirty bowl – and you wouldn’t do that would you? “Positive thinking” will only cheer you up during the moment you’re doing it unless you’re working with a “clean slate”, having rid yourself of the limiting beliefs that were stopping you.

Another thing that people who don’t seem to make the Law of Attraction work for them keep forgetting is that as with all other things in life, the Law of Attraction is a skill that you acquire through a process of learning, like learning how to drive a car for the first time or learning how to operate your newly purchased DVD-player. In order to learn something you have to go through a process of learning, from being unconsciously incompetent to becoming unconsciously competent. The steps are as followed:

What most people are not aware of is that beliefs are operating at an unconscious level. If you try and “think” your way out of hard-wired patterns it does not work! You cannot simply think your limiting beliefs away! What’s also quite remarkable is that many people aren’t even aware that they have limiting beliefs that are stopping them from getting to where they want to go, because the limiting beliefs are so well hidden as patterns that are out of our conscious awareness.

So, how do we get rid of our unwanted limiting beliefs?

NLP is one of the tools, and may I add – a very powerful tool – that you can use for getting rid of whatever is blocking your way to creating the life of your dreams. In NLP Training we seek to figure out what patterns you are running that aren’t benefiting you. NLP deals with changing the limiting beliefs, decisions and behaviour that does not serve you any purpose in terms of who you want to be, do and have in your life.

  1. Unconscious Incompetence (we don’t know we don’t know how to)
  2. Conscious Incompetence (we know we don’t know how to)
  3. Conscious Competence (we know we know how to)
  4. Unconscious Competence (we do it without knowing how we do it)

Imagine a baby who is learning how to walk. You wouldn’t expect the baby to immediately stand up tall and walk. You would expect for him/her to fall several times before succeeding. What’s important here is that the baby would not give up after just a few attempts, just as you wouldn’t tell the baby after it’s first or second attempt: “Sorry baby, this is clearly not working for you. I think you might consider giving up on walking.” – So why on earth would you tell yourself that?!

Keep practicing the Law of Attraction until you do it by habit and make sure that you are working with a “clean slate”. If you do that, there will be no limits to the possibilities and abundance that you will invite into your life. One of the ways to practise The Law of Attraction is to use The Now State. The Now State will keep you in the present tense, where all abundance comes from.

We in NLP World have set up a 2-day course, The Law of Attraction Weekend, which is specifically designed for clearing out unwanted limiting beliefs and implementing new positive intentions for your future.

If you’ve already got some experience with NLP Training and you feel as if there’s more for you to clear out, this course will be an excellent add-on to your experience. There’s nothing like a clean system when you want to make your visions into reality.

Also, if you have friends that want an “in” to NLP and they don’t want the full seven days, put them across to us. We’ll take good care of their transformations. And if you choose to come along as well, we’ll give you a 50% discount.

We sometimes put on “The Law of Attraction” Weekend – send an e-mail to terryelston@nlpworld.co.uk andask when the next one might be…
